Background
The overall objective of this project, which is supported by the UNDP-Act, is the production of useful and creative information and supplementary educational material for youth, educators and parents which will enhance the awareness of youth living in Cyprus or visiting the island, about the cultural heritage of Nicosia, drawing their attention to certain restored historical and cultural sites of the walled city, equipping them with resources needed to conceptualise Nicosia as a place of unity and familiarising them with principles and benefits of cooperation.
Why is this project important for Cyprus?
The Nicosia Master Plan (NMP) has contributed towards bringing people together across the divide to collaborate towards an improved city for all. There is however an even stronger need which has emerged which is the participation of young people in learning about the past, present and future of the whole Walled Nicosia.
Main activities
Contribution to cooperation and trust
This project will endeavour to provide the youth with the resources required to conceptualise Nicosia as a place of unity and to familiarise them with the principles and benefits of cooperation across the divide thus promoting inter-communal relationships, dialogue and trust between the two communities.
What does this project aim to achieve?
Raising awareness about the cultural heritage of Nicosia amongst the youth, providing them with the symbolic resources required to conceptualise Nicosia as a place of unity and familiarising them with the principles and benefits of cooperation.
